Within its countless bricks and watchtowers lies the eternal spirit of Chinese civilization. When you walk on its sacred ground, you will feel this spirit all around you. The fun and excitement you get from exploring this marvel will stay with you for the rest of your life. That's why set out on a nearly two-week odyssey that will take you from the Great Wall's easternmost point, making our way slowly east back towards Beijing.

Let's Plan Your Trip

WHAT TO EXPECT

The longest Great Wall and the most comprehensive Great Wall tour that we offer.

We've got you covered from the moment you arrive in Beijing from our friendly airport pickup. Then, we'll set out on a nearly two-week odyssey that will take you from the Great Wall's easternmost point, making our way slowly east back towards Beijing.

You'll also be able to take in numerous villages in the Chinese countryside, giving you an authentic look into Chinese society.

Besides the Great Wall, you'll tour the East Qing Tombs, the final resting place for many emperors of China's last ruling dynasty, the Qing. It is a historical touch beyond walking the Great Wall.

Let's Plan Your Trip

TOUR MAP

BRIEF ITINERARY

Day 1: Welcome to Beijing.

Welcome to you at the airport. A transfer is included from the airport to the Holiday Inn Express in the heart of Beijing.

Day 2: Great Wall by the Ocean

Kick-off your journey with a 4-hour drive to Shanhaiguan, south of the Bohai Sea. Here is where the Wall goes into the ocean, called "Old Dragon Head." The Great Wall here looks like a dragon's head poking into the sea and dancing in the waves. Stay at a beautiful courtyard hotel in the ancient downtown of Shanhaiguan Pass. Local lunch and dinner.

Day 3: Jiaoshan

Walk 4 hours at Jiaoshan (Horn Mountain), the first actual mountain the Great Wall passes west. Its peak is a flat item, can sit hundreds of people, there are huge boulders sagging, as if a dragon head wears horns and so the name. Stay in the same ancient town hotel at Shanhaiguan.

Day 4: Dongjiakou

Discover Dongjiakou. The Great Wall here has a well-preserved enemy platform with a daughter-in-law building. It has old smoke towers, small smoke towers, and a rigid structure. It is a specimen of this section of the Great Wall. Overnight at Huangyaguan hotel at the foot of the Great Wall.

Day 5: The East Qing Tombs

We add a 3-hour tour to the East Qing Tombs, a World Heritage site. It is the best-preserved and largest of the extant royal tombs complexes in China. These royal dignitaries who once dominated the country's destiny and played significant roles in the Qing dynasty's political scene are now sleeping here. Head up to an overlook for Huangyuan Great Wall (Yellow Cliff Pass) for 1 hour. Lodge at Huangyaguan hotel.

Day 6: Huangyaguan Pass

Trek four hours from the Peace Fort to Huangyaguan Pass and the Sky Ladder, famous for its steepness and splendor. The east and west sides of the Pass are like cliffs, with steep and majestic hills, renowned for their "one man's barrier, ten thousand men's barrier." As the peaks reflect a thousand golden lights when the sun shines in the west at sunset, it is named Yellow Cliff Pass. Drive to Jinshanling Great Wall. Overnight in a courtyard hotel by the Wall.

Day 7: Jinshanling and West Simatai

Hike 3 hours from Jinshanling to West Simatai. Jinshanling has five passes, 67 enemy buildings, and three beacons. The Great Wall is a majestic and winding road, and the view from the top is spectacular. It rises and falls between mountains and rivers, and the situation is incredibly magnificent. Especially here, the enemy buildings are densely packed, exquisitely constructed, and in various forms. Relying on the mountains to set up the danger, the Wall undulates steel walls and iron walls with the water to set up a blockade. Drive to Gubeikou to camp in the General's towers, the headquarters in every battle.

Day 8: Gubeikou

Hike 4.5 hours toward Jinshanling from where you camp last night at Gubeikou, the battlefield where the Chinese army fought against the Japanese invasion in the 1930's. The entire Gubeikou Great Wall remains original, very much like a sense of vicissitudes, and the broken walls and bullet holes make you feel as if you were there. A time of war. Seeing the Wall like this, in the light of the setting sun, is tear-jerking. Move to Jiankou Section and stay in Miss-U-Much hostel.

Day 9: Jiankou

Gaze up at the peak of Jiankou, whose shape of the mountain looks like an arrow, with the collapsed ridge opening as its arrow nock. The Great Wall here is one of the most precipitous and majestic sections of the Great Wall, heavily weathered and untouched by any artificial embellishment. Fully demonstrated the Great Wall's astonishing, dangerous, strange, unique, can appreciate the ancient Great Wall landscape's original taste. Stay at the same hostel as last night.

Day 10: Jiankou and Mutianyu

Walk across over onto Mutianyu, a section of the Wall that has been largely restored. The Wall here is famous for visiting foreign leaders and celebrities. Among the Great Wall sections in Beijing, Mutianyu is known as "the most beautiful and beautiful of all." Try the toboggan slide at the end. Camp on the Great Wall again at the lakeside Huanghuacheng.

Day 11: Lakeside Huanghuacheng

Set off on a hike across Huanghuacheng. The Huanghua Great Wall is majestic and precipitous, magnificent, hovering above the mountain ridges, surrounded by the Hao Ming Lake, the scenery is spectacular. The Great Wall is to guard the northern gate of the capital, and become the guardian of the Ming Tombs "thirteen mausoleums" important portal, which is the essence of the Great Wall of Ming Location. Today is the last day of our Great Wall hike. Return to Holiday Inn Express in Beijing tonight.

Jiankou is the part where the mountain's shape looks like an arrow, with the collapsed ridge opening as its arrow nock. It is known for its ruggedness and wild beauty, and you will be in awe of the marvelous views it affords. As soon as we reach Jiankou, we will see a deserted watchtower that gives you a panoramic view of the entire valley. In the early morning, the picture is priceless with its morning fog. Here is the pinnacle of exotic Great Wall scenery.

Once we descend from the Great Wall, we will spend the night at a farmer's inn.

Day 10: Jiankou to Mutianyu

From Jiankou, we will cross over onto Mutianyu, a section of the Wall that has been largely restored. Although it has gotten a face-lift, it avoids the army of tourists that plague Badaling.

The advantage of the Great Wall at Mutianyu is the beautiful scenery, the majestic Great Wall hidden among the pines and cypresses, which makes the perfect picture.

Mutianyu has also become famous for visiting foreign leaders and celebrities.

We will transfer to Huanghucheng to camp on the Great Wall for one more night.

Day 12: The Forbidden City and Cultural Ride

Hunaghuacheng is the only section that sits beside the lakes, so it is called Lakeside Great Wall. Since the lake breaks this section of the Great Wall into three segments naturally, its uniqueness might surprise you. The Hanghuacheng Reservoir lies here, shaped like a curved moon. The Wall's highest point is a broken watchtower, and from there, you will have a broad panoramic view of the whole valley. From this summit, the Wall dives steeply downwards into the valley.

We will drive back to Beijing in the late afternoon.
