Day 1: The Bund and Yu Garden
We wll meet you at the Port of Shanghai in the morning and drive to the Bund, the most recognizable landmarks of Shanghai that every visitor must see. The Bund is a waterfront as the symbol of Shanghai for hundreds of years. It affords marvelous views across the river of the Pudong district and its numerous towers. The most famous and attractive sight at the west side of the Bund is the 52 various architectural styles, including Gothic, Baroque, Romanesque, Classicism, and the Renaissance. At night the Bund and the surrounding skyscrapers are all lit up, making for a fabulous night on the town!
We'll enjoy Shanghai local cuisine for lunch. Shanghai cuisine is remarkably lighter and sweeter than most other Chinese dishes.
In the afternoon, we'll tour Yuyuan Garden. Yuyuan Garden is a famed classical garden. Even though it may be small, it contains numerous pavilions, halls, rockeries, ponds, cloisters, and unique characteristics. There are six main scenic areas in the garden: Sansui Hall, Wanhua Chamber, Dianchun Hall, Huijing Hall, Yuhua Hall, and the Inner Garden. Each site features several scenic spots within its borders.
Your first full day in Shanghai will conclude with a walk down Nanjing Road, Shanghai's premier shopping street. Open-air bars, abstract sculptures, and lingering sounds from street musicians enhance evening strolls. A trackless sightseeing train provides a comfortable tour of the night-transformed pedestrian street. Flashing neon signs illuminate the magnificent buildings and spangle the night skyline of this lively city.
Tonight, you'll stay in a 5-star hotel.
Day 2: Shanghai in the Past (B, L)
We'll spend today to see Shanghai's past. Zhujiajiao Watertown in the suburb is a reflection of Shanghai of hundreds of years ago. Zhujiajiao is an ancient water town well known throughout the country, with a history of more than 1700 years.
Endowed with another elegant name - 'Pearl Stream' - the little town is the best-preserved among the four ancient towns in Shanghai. Unique old bridges across bubbling streams, small rivers shaded by willow trees, and houses with courtyards attached all transport people who have been living amidst the bustle and hustle of the modern big city to a brand-new world full of antiquity, leisure, and tranquility.
