Xian Private Tours from Beijing

Xian, more than the legendary Army of Terracotta Warriors

Our local knowledge enables you to navigate Xian, this exotic exciting World Heritage city with ease

A Walk in the Thousand Year Old Capital - Memory of Chang'an (Xian's historical name in the Tang Dynasty)

Xi'an, a bustling city that never sleeps, is a place where you will fall in love with the people, the things, the scenery, and the food from the moment you set foot on it. The city, which has seen the rise and fall of 13 dynasties, is like a vast museum. The Terracotta Warriors is one of the eight wonders of the world. The ancient City Wall and the Big Wild Goose Pagoda are what is left by the ancients to reveal history's heritage.

This ancient city has witnessed thousands of years of history, the relentless flow of time, from the Western Zhou Dynasty to the Tang Dynasty, and the dynasties continue to change.

Seeing the unified Qin Empire, Ying Zheng is stepping towards the throne. Zhang Qian, the delegate on the second expedition to the West, set off on the Silk Road again. In the shining and glorious Tang Dynasty, the Western Market is ready to open its doors for the first time.

The history of the footsteps of fading away, from which the passing of the most precious, precipitated, is priceless. The ancient city, which has witnessed a thousand years of history, still stands quietly on the same spot, watching the sunrise and set, and the river and mountains remain unchanged.

The Museum of Terracotta Warriors and Horses

Known as the eighth wonder of the world, the Terracotta Warriors and Horses Museum is the largest ancient military museum in China based on the Terracotta Warriors and Horses in the First Emperor of the Qin Dynasty, which was built on the site of a large burial pit.

The terracotta warriors and horses all still hold their weapons in their empty hands, but unfortunately, the weapons have already rotted away in time.

The Bell and Drum Towers

The Bell and Drum Tower in Xi'an is not a single building, but a combined name for the Bell Tower and the Drum Tower, in the center of the city.

The bell tower is covered with dark green glazed tiles on the eaves and topped with a gilded treasure roof, which is incredibly beautiful when looking at the gilded bell tower at night when the lights are on.  The Drum Tower in Xi'an sits in the thirteenth year of the Hongwu reign (1380) amidst the rain and smoke. The Drum Tower in Xi'an is the second-largest and best-preserved in terms of size and integrity, but no other Drum Tower in Xi'an would dare to be the first.

The Shanxi History Museum

The Shaanxi History Museum, the legendary "Shaanxi Museum," is one of China's three largest museums and the Forbidden City and the Nanjing Museum. It is a must-visit first stop to understand the history and culture of the 13 dynasties' ancient capital!

The collection contains more than 370,000 cultural relics, ranging from simple stone tools of ancient man to all kinds of artifacts of social life before 1840, spanning more than a million years. The museum concentrates on the Chinese nation's historic essence. It is known as the "Chinese treasure trove," which is the art hall of ancient Chinese civilization and Shaanxi history and culture.

Xian City Wall

Xi'an City Wall, also known as Xi'an Ming City Wall, was built during the Ming Emperor Hongwu and had a history of over 600 years, making it the most enormous and best-preserved ancient city wall in China.

The greenish-gray walls, with each layer of bricks shrinking a little bit upwards, and the wide bottom and narrow top of the structure, were built to make the walls more stable, so they can be preserved intact until now, sighing the wisdom of the ancients.

There is a road just below the city wall, where people come and go. You can rent bicycles on the wall, and it's the right choice for a 14-kilometer loop around the Ming Wall.

The Big Goose Pagoda

The Big Wild Goose Pagoda, on the other hand, was built by Xuanzang in the third year of Emperor Gaozhuang's reign (652) to preserve the scrolls of the Buddha's image that were brought back to Chang'an from the Tianzhu Temple via the Silk Road.

After the Tang dynasty's imperial examinations, the students who had won the gold medal would be invited by the emperor to a banquet at the Qujiang River. After the banquet, they would come to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, choose a person with outstanding calligraphy skills, and write down their names, places of origin, and other details. Under the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. If someone later becomes prime minister, he has to write his name again in a red pen.

Small Goose Pagoda

The Little Wild Goose Pagoda and the Big Wild Goose Pagoda are both important symbols of the Tang Chang'an City, which is still preserved today.

It is located in Jianfu Temple on the south side of Youyi Road in Xi'an, facing east-west with the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. Jianfu Temple is a famous temple in Chang'an of the Tang dynasty. The renowned monk Yimen Chan translated 56 sutras at Jianfu Temple and wrote a book entitled "Biography of Buddhist Monks Seeking Dharma in the Western Regions of the Great Tang Dynasty," which was a significant contribution to the study of Chinese and Indian Buddhism. Cultural exchanges are precious.

Xi'an Banpo Museum

Perhaps the oldest ruins in Xi'an, the half-slope ruins, are 6,000 years of human activity and belong to the Neolithic Yangshao culture. In addition to constructing an exhibition room, the Museum of the Half Slope has built a conservation hall in a 3,000-square-meter primitive village settlement. There remains of houses, cellars, cooking pits, separate burial sites for men and women, various production and household goods, etc. in the half slope. They vividly show the production and life of the ancestors who lived more than 6,000 years ago when the matrilineal clan society was flourishing.

Tang Paradise in Xi'an

The Tang Hibiscus Garden, a royal garden adjacent to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, is a blend of simplicity and fashion, expressing the Tang dynasty's cultural tension in its way, and has become a business card showing the culture of the Tang dynasty. Walking into the Tang Hibiscus Garden, people are shocked not only by the ancient architecture and the illusion of being in the Tang dynasty but also by the modern high-tech! Bring the novelty of display methods and the thrill of the experience. Walking through the garden, you can smell the fragrance wherever you go.

Huaqing Hot Spring Palace (Huaqing Pool)

There are more than 2,700 known hot springs in China, and Huaqing Pond Hot Spring is the first of all springs with its aromatic cream and touching story, and is known as "the first imperial spring in the world."

The hot spring in Mt. Li has a long history and is still inexhaustible despite the vicissitudes of time, and is known as the "No. 1 spring in the world". There is an ancient source of hot spring water in the Xijia Building in Huaqing Pond, which has thousands of years. The hot spring water of Mt. Yishan contains many minerals, such as silicon monoxide and fluoride ions.

Dreams of Returning to the Great Tang

Dreams of Returning to the Great Tangis performed for 70 minutes and is divided into six acts. They are the prologue: "A Dream in the Garden," Act I: "Dreams of Nishang," Act II: "Dreams of Inviting the King of Qin," Act III. Bathing in Huaqing", Act IV: "Dreaming of the West," Act V: "Dreaming of the Qujiang River," Act VI: "Dreaming of Returning to the Great Tang."

Dumpling Banquet

Dumplings are the traditional food of China. The best thing about Xi'an Dumpling Banquet is the variety of ingredients, different flavors, and beautiful shapes. The third is a lovely shape. The dumplings are in the form of a goldfish with vivid and lifelike eyes, or pearls with an exquisite and exquisite shape like apricot kernel, or mandarin ducks and duck-shaped dumplings. Butterfly shape, Yuanbao shape; some also such as birds' nest, conch, and flowers are a thousand postures, ingeniously crafted.

Muslim Quarter

Behind the Bell and Drum towers, there is an area featuring Xian's most famous street foods run by Muslim residents. At the end of the 1990s, some Muslims lived in the Muslim Quarter, which is one of the most famous streets in Xi'an. This street is rented for catering, so Lianhu District changed to the catering road, and the North Gate became the Muslim Street. On both sides of the street, there are various snack shops, so you can feel the deep cultural heritage of the area while eating food.

Video about the Terracotta Warriors, Xian

Check out this great video before your tour.

Daniel displayed an immense wealth of knowledge.

We had a fantastic one-day tour of the Museum of Terra-cotta Warriors and Horses.  Our guide, Daniel, was all we could hope for; he was there to meet us when the overnight train arrived, displayed an immense wealth of knowledge about the site, and was very pleasant and entertaining throughout the day.

I highly recommend this tour and this guide.
