This program is an incredible way to get the best out of your short time in China. In just 4 days you will get to go on the 3 most popular Great Wall hikes. We’ll start out with the trek from Jinshanling to West Simatai, a hike that combines classically restored Great Wall along with its natural and unrestored state. If you come in the spring or summer, you’ll see that the surrounding countryside is bathed in the glow of blooming yellow wild flowers.
Our program will conclude with a trek from Jiankou to Mutianyu, which, like the Jinshanling-Gubeikou-Simatai West portion, also features restored and natural Great Wall. The Jiankou-Mutianyu hike has risen rapidly in popularity, thanks to the amazing views and vistas that these two sections provide. Finally, when leaving Mutianyu, you have the option to descend the wall by way of toboggan, a fun and thrilling experience that shouldn’t be missed! These two hikes are a photographer’s fantasy, as you’ll have loads of opportunities for stunning views and pictures.
We start out with a visit to Gubeikou, a strategically important portion of the Great Wall that even saw fighting in the 20th century against the Japanese. We will advance into Jinshanling, which is one the most photographed parts of the Great Wall, and which features watchtowers as far as the eye can see. For the second day, we’ll start from the western end of Simatai, an unrestored section known for its challenging path.
We’ll enter Jinshanling from the opposite end that we came yesterday, and for the night we’ll camp out in a Great Wall watchtower, which is sure to be one of your most cherished memories during your time in China. On the third day we’ll make our way to Jiankou, a ruggedly beautiful portion of wall that features stunningly dramatic ruins and steep climbing. Set above in the mountains, the scenery is sure to take your breath away. On the fourth and final day we’ll cross over into Mutianyu, a tastefully restored section which features an incredibly fun toboggan ride on the way down!
Camping on the Wild Wall, which is not known to outsiders but is the most heartwarming and fascinating, is the embodiment of a dream. Looking at the moonlight of the mountains, the stars, imagine, what a rare opportunity. We have a government permit for Great Wall Camping and can make sure you don't lose this experience to remember for a lifetime.

It was great to see the UN-restored part of the wall and the restored part as well. You can really see the difference in the 2. Our tour guide was Aaron - he was FANTASTIC!!! He was very knowledgeable about the history of the Wall. It was really good to hear lots of interesting facts along the way, especially while stopping to catch your breathe LOL. Aaron was also very good in keeping us informed on what was happening next and how far we had come and still had to go. He was also understanding when we needed to take a break to sit down or take photos. Overall this 4 day hiking/camping adventure was amazing and I would highly recommend it. :)

Our hike will start from Simatai, and we will make our way west along the wall into Jinshanling. This is the classic Great Wall that hikers are very thrilled about. wall enthusiasts have done. The Wall runs from deteriorated wild state to the restored in the end to allow hikers to compare the differences between the two wall status.
Tonight, we will camp on the Great Wall in an ancient watchtower.

Gubeikou is mostly Wild Wall. It was first built during the Northern Qi Dynasty (550-557) and rebuilt in Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). Stretching for about 25 miles (40 kilometers), there are 172 watchtowers, 14 beacon towers, 16 passes, 3 water passes, 3 barbarians, and 6 fortresses along it.
In 1933, Chinese army fought against Japanese invasion troops at Gubeikou. In the four-month-long battles, over 5,000 Japanese soldiers were killed while 9,000 Chinese soldiers died. You can see that Gubeikou is not merely a relic but it remained as a battlefield in modern world.

Jiankou is the part where the shape of the mountain looks like an arrow, with the collapsed ridge opening as its arrow nock. It is known for its ruggedness and wild beauty, and you will be in awe of the marvelous views it affords. As soon as we reach Jiankou we will see a deserted watchtower that gives you a panoramic view of the entire valley. In the early morning the view is priceless with its morning fog. This is the pinnacle of exotic Great Wall scenery.
Once we descend from the Great Wall we will spend the night at a farmer’s inn.
Meals: B, L, D
Accommodation: Laohe's Inn
From Jiankou we will cross over onto Mutianyu, a section of the Wall that has been largely restored. Although it has gotten a face-lift, it avoids the army of tourists that plague Badaling. Mutianyu offers some breathtaking views of the valley and wall below, and if you look to your right you’ll see a large sign engraved in the side of the mountain encouraging you to “Cherish the teachings of Chairman Mao.” Mutianyu has also become popular for visiting foreign leaders and celebrities.
